It’s that time of the year when Geylang Serai comes to life with the spirit of Ramadan rife in the air! Oh, it has returned – the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024! This bazaar has the whole country waiting with bated breath every year to take on the scrumptious foods and indulge in sweet buys. But, my dearest reader, the sweet buys have gotten sweeter – more specifically, in the fashion section. Malay fashion houses take the spotlight at the bazaar to give you your next favourite outfit, one for every occasion, and we bring you seven of them today!
My fashion fanatics, this Ramadan, the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024 gives and gives. It gives you fashion houses that carry the most exquisite and beautiful pieces to adorn you for Eid or will have you dolled up even on the dullest days. I promise you will not walk away disappointed. Let’s be real: When have we ever walked away disappointed by one of Singapore’s largest and liveliest night bazaars?
But I must warn you. These outfits are glorious and blinding. They may blind you and sway you away from making a financially sound decision as you end up buying yourself a whole new wardrobe. But let girl math shine here and let all the duit-raya offset the cost of these hot deals! Sounds perfect? Perfect.
And now, here are seven fashion houses you can find at the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024 that will be the cosiest yet most stunning pieces in your wardrobe!
Rayaan Couture
What better way to start this list with the most bling-bling of them all? Rayaan Couture houses extremely unique designs to ensure you stand out in a crowd. From beautiful embroidery to tasteful bling, they also wow you with a wide variety of materials and designs for an outfit that feels truly you. I think we just found you your newest go-to shopping haven for some fancy outfits fit for special occasions like weddings and, of course, Eid!
Rayaan Couture also takes your shopping experience very seriously. Their stall at the bazaar is designed to give you the luxurious feel you need when you’re looking through their beautiful selection with their plush interior and convenient categorisation. Knowing that outfits for most Malay occasions are colour-coordinated, all the outfits are arranged in the stall by colour for breezier shopping. You can find colours like black, navy blue, white, forest green, sage green, pink, lilac, red, and so many more!
Priced between S$69 to S$139, this Singapore-based brand with a factory in Dubai assures high quality and unique designs for one and all. Ladies, have at it. For more, check out Rayaan Couture’s official website, Instagram and TikTok!
Mizah B
Mizah B is a brand for the masses. It listens, knows exactly what you need, and delivers it fearlessly. This Singaporean brand was made for Singaporeans; every product is a testament to that. Mizah B’s clothing selection is more minimalistic, which makes their outfits perfect for everyday use. But you and I both know there’s so much more to clothing than just that.
First of all, the material of their clothing is mostly sheer satin, so, best believe, it feels silky and cooling without being too shiny and flashy for an everyday piece. Mizah B’s clothing also gives off a relaxed silhouette with its light and flowy material. Instead of weighing you down in this unbelievably roasting weather, it makes you feel like you can fly! Many of their designs and patterns seek European influence, seeing that the frontwoman of this stall (whom you’ll meet when you visit the bazaar!) lives in the UK and has translated her observations and inspiration into these designs.
An example of how they listen to their consumers, though, is in the material. Satin is stunning, but it’s very slippery and easily slips off the head. Hence, Mizah B’s solution was to make the underside slightly coarser to create friction with the surface and curb this problem. They know your struggles! Another example is in the hijab lengths – while most hijabs sold are about 1.8 metres, Mizah B’s are 2 metres to give you more flexibility for styling. Their prices are a little steeper at S$135, but their pieces emphasise the utmost quality, elegance and sophistication.
Another surprise that Mizah B has in store for you (literally!) is their fine selection of Italian handbags straight from Italy, a place on earth known especially for their fine workmanship! Priced at S$175 to S$250, they have been picked especially for Singaporeans’ palettes and can be matched seamlessly with their outfits too! You’d be walking out a girlboss, I fear. Check out Mizah B’s official website, Instagram and TikTok pages for a closer look at their collections!
Khadija Exquizit
Another fashion house that will blow you away with soft materials and unique designs is Khadija Exquizit. Just standing there, I was enthralled by the pieces they carried and could tell that the craft was of utmost quality. Their staff was so incredibly kind in picking out the perfect outfit for your body too!
They have a range of abayas and kebayas that look beautiful from afar and will lure you in like bees to honey. The kebayas are some of their best-sellers. They’re very comfortable and silky, and you can tell they won’t suffocate you when it gets piping hot. The patterns are stunning and give them a spectacular traditional look.
With an array of colours available for you to choose from, you’ll look ready to take on a runway! There is also a huge array of abayas that will leave you spoilt for choice. Go forth and check out what’s in store for you! With prices starting from S$69, Khadija Exquizit is ready to be your Eid shopping haven! Check out their Facebook and TikTok pages for a closer look at their designs.
Oud Luxury Collection
Alright, men. I know we’ve been yapping on and on about female clothing, but we’ve got you something, too! A sister brand to Khadija Exquizit, Oud Luxury Collection may be mainly a perfume brand, but they have a little something for the men—Men Afghani Thobes.
They’re so silky and soft with a flowy silhouette. There’s also such extreme attention to detail in these thobes with pockets (as a girl, I can’t even begin to tell you how jealous I am) and beautiful buttons that have a touch of antiquity, tying it so well with the traditional look of the thobe. Check them out on their Instagram page!
almoulke
This fashion house certainly differs from its counterparts, standing tall and proud in the bazaar. almoulke’s most unique feature is that all of its pieces are not only Syrian-inspired but also handmade in Syria. It’s a whole new ball game altogether, with distinctive designs and materials that are pleasing to the eye and comfortable on the body.
Compared to more typical designs, Syria-inspired ones shine a brighter spotlight on the floral designs in gold embroidery. Against bright and bold colours, these designs stand out, and their intricacy becomes your admirer’s greatest marvel. In addition to florals, they also use stones to make an outfit pop, making them suitable for more extravagant occasions. Down to the cutting and cooling material that makes it excellent under our scorching skies, almoulke’s designs will leave you and everyone else mesmerised.
Priced between S$50 and S$130, these pieces are unique in culture and art. Catch all their designs (including a heart-melting collection called ‘Humankind Singapore’ that shows support for Palestine) on almoulke’s official website!
SHEFFA (under THEORY OF TWO STUDIO)
Under THEORY OF TWO STUDIO, which is a stall you’ll be able to find at the bazaar to wow you with wedding season goodies, unique money envelopes and home decor, is their fashion label SHEFFA. While it means ‘cure’ or ‘healing’, SHEFFA will surely heal your inner shopaholic with their wallet-friendly selection. SHEFFA is for all those who don’t pay mind to seasonality and trends and are on the hunt for timeless and minimalistic designs that are comfortable and chic enough to wear every day!
The outfit our model wore was made of luxuriously soft premium cotton. It has a minimalistic look that can be styled in about a gazillion ways. The scarf with it made for a stunning duo that completed the simple brown look. Priced at S$78 and with 13 colours to look out for, SHEZZA has an effortless and sophisticated style that will have you reaching for it all the time. Check out all their happenings on their Instagram page!
As for THEORY OF TWO, it’s a modern event stationery and branding design company. For everyone hearing wedding bells, whether your own or if you’re getting revved up for someone else’s, their stall at the bazaar will give you a glimpse into what they offer. However, during Ramadan, there are fewer weddings in the Muslim community. Hence, THEORY OF TWO shifts its focus to the envelopes, home decor and SHEFFA! Check out THEORY OF TWO’s official website and Instagram page!
KYRA
Once again, men, I have your Eid outfit for you! You will always feel comfortable. You will have the flexibility to style yourself in any way you wish. You will glisten a little at the right angles. But I promise you, you will surely stand out. You will be the best dressed in whichever room you may be in. That’s the enchantment of KYRA!
Their clothes are all made of cotton linen, making them ideal for the terrible temperatures of Singapore. The intricate embroidery on each top could have you marvelling for hours. This attention to detail goes down to the buttons – they add a flair to the outfits that make them pop, and little glimmers from sequins that add another dimension to your top.
From just S$49, you can find a timeless top that will be your perfect Eid outfit or for any occasion! Check them out on their Instagram now!
Ending Thoughts
There was all this and so much more at the grand affair we call the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024! There are many other stores you can check out that offer unique goods like Adrianna Yariqa, which has matching outfits for the entire family (including rompers for the tots and kids’ sizes starting from size 1, or batik designs by Aliah Abdat, which are colourful and handsewn! Every store has impressive designs that will class up your Eid and have you looking swell every day, from the fancy outfits down to the more chic and minimalistic ones.
The whole country falls for this annual bazaar, but there’s so much more to it than just the yummilicious treats that have you frothing at the mouth. Most of these fashion houses are local brands that have created designs knowing exactly what you are looking for. In a time when our markets are saturated with international and artisanal brands from all over the world, let’s take a moment to remember the local businesses that have started up in an attempt to connect with the very people they’ve grown up with.
Let this Ramadan be the start of something new – a new habit, if you will. Supporting local is not about boycotting your international brands. It’s about showing that you’re rooting for them. It’s about the small steps you can take. One of them is heading down to the bazaar and showing an interest in their stories, their designs and their livelihoods.
Make a purchase, make a conversation and make a difference. Wouldn’t that be just lovely?
