With many companies teasing the release of their new PC parts, it is exciting times again in the world of PC building – a stark contrast to the GPU crisis that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Continuing this trend is AMD, who has announced the release of their new 7000 series processors on 29 August 2022. The new series is a step up from their previous 5000 series processors, which were released in October 2020.
AMD has released 4 new processors, with the cheapest option, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, costing USD$299, and the most expensive option, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, coming in at USD$699. Also included in the lineup are the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Ryzen 9 7900X, both coming in at USD$399 and USD$549, respectively.
All four processors come with support for PCIe Gen 5, but each comes with its own specific specs. For example, the highest-end 7950X comes with 16 cores and 32 threads, while the 7900X comes with 12 cores and 24 threads. This is followed by the 7700X, which has 8 cores and 16 threads, and finally, the 7600X has 6 cores and 12 threads.
This results in fast processing speeds for the processors, with the 7950X coming in at 4.5GHz, which can be boosted up to 5.7GHz. Meanwhile, the 7900X comes in at 4.7GHz and can be boosted up to 5.6GHz. The 7700X has speeds of 4.5GHz, which can be boosted to 5.4GHz. Lastly, the 7600x comes in at 4.7GHz and can be boosted to 5.3GHz.
The new processors also utilise the new “Zen 4” architecture, which is a step-up from the previous generation “Zen 3” architecture. This results in a performance boost, with even the entry-level Ryzen 5 7600x seeing a 5% difference in gaming performance as compared to its competitors. The Ryzen 7950x meanwhile, will see a 15% difference in its performance levels.
But that’s not all. The new processors also have better energy efficiency; the 7950X is quoted to be 47% more energy-efficient than the competition -a mindblowing difference. Besides that, the new CPUs also use an all-new 6nm I/O die, which allows for accelerated hardware video encoding/decoding, multi-display support, and light-duty graphics work.
Besides their new CPUs, AMD also announced their new AM5 platform, which has features such as dual-channel DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 support. Their new AM5 socket family includes 4 different chipsets, all of which cater to different groups of audiences. The AMD B650 for mainstream users, the B650E for performance, the X670 for overclocking and the X670 Extreme for the best overclocking and performance. They are priced from USD$125 onwards.
The 7000 series processors will be released globally on 27 September to leading etailers and retailers. In addition, the X670 and X670E chipsets will be released in September, and the B650 and B650E chipsets will be released in October. For more information, you can check out AMD’s website here.
