This month, weโ€™re celebrating 56 years of our nationโ€™s independence, and with it comes many events and promotions to commemorate the occasion! Other non-National Day highlights are also set to launch during the month, so check out everything thatโ€™s going down with our Quick Beats for August 2021!

Singapore Symphony Orchestra August Performances

SSO National Day Concert

Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) brings a myriad of performances this August. Chief among them is their online National Day Concert on 29 August, where theyโ€™ll be featuring classic favourites such as Dick Lee’s Home and new works by Singapore’s growing league of talented composers.

Other August programmes include the recently amended President’s Young Performers Concert, featuring soloist Charmaine Teo on 5 and 6 August. Next, the Night of The Saxophone on 19 and 20 August will have Singaporean saxophone extraordinaire Samuel Phua. And Love, Carmen and Mozart, on 27 & 28 August, with guest Korean violinist Ye-Eun Choi.

Singapore Sports Hub Activities

Quick Beats August 2021: Dance Saber

Singapore Sports Hub has a line-up of pandemic-appropriate activities that you can enjoy together with friends and families. For example, from 6 August, you can embark on a virtual GPS hunt around Kallang Wave Mall, where you and your group will complete quizzes and e-games across 10 GPS pinned stations, with the chance to redeem a goodie bag worth $56.

Youโ€™ll also be able to work out a sweat alongside National Day tunes in two specially-themed Experience Sports sessions on 8 August โ€” the Workout Lah! Cardio Dance class and a session of Dance Saber. Youโ€™ll be grooving to the latest beats that have a local twist in โ€˜Workout Lah!โ€™ and Dance Saber will have you wielding lightsabers to the tune of National Day theme songs. Only 30 pax are available per class, so be sure to register fast!

Other activities include visiting the Singapore Sports Museum, where you can relive Singaporeโ€™s past sporting glory and aspirations through memorabilia donated by a die-hard Lions fan.

UNIQLO Singapore Jujutsu Kaisen Anime UT Collaboration Collection

UNIQLO Singapore Jujutsu Kaisen Collab 2

The first Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration with UNIQLO Singapore began near the end of July, combining Uniqloโ€™s UT (UNIQLO T-shirt) with the characters in the manga style. Now, theyโ€™re back once again, this time with exclusive designs from its anime television series.

Popular characters like Gojo Satoru and Yuji Itadori are featured front and centre on these T-shirts, and now youโ€™ll be able to rep them in style! But T-shirts arenโ€™t the only thing from the collection, pocketable bags matching the UT designs will also be available for sale. The new collection will be arriving right on National Day (9 August) on both the retail and online store for UNIQLO in a limited run, so be sure to get them when they arrive!

Indulge in the Four-Course National Day Takeaway Set Menu by Chef Leong (S$170 nett for four persons), which consists of roasted Peking duck (half), stewed Beijing-style pork rib with deep-fried mantou, crispy diced chicken with spiced shrimp paste, and simmered truffle Ee-Fu noodles. Or try Chef Ongโ€™s Six-Course Takeaway Family Sets (S$180 nett for four persons), which comes in two offerings โ€” โ€˜Spices of Singaporeโ€™ (traditional Malay) and โ€˜Nyonya Reunionโ€™ (Peranakan) โ€” to enjoy dishes infused with aromatic spices and bold flavours.

Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) is celebrating National Day, and theyโ€™ll be having an online trail that connects to Singaporeโ€™s history while you listen to a medley of well-loved National Day tunes.

The Front Row 2021

After its successful launch last year, virtual fashion festival The Front Row returns this year โ€” and with it, a whole host of items like on-demand virtual fashion shows, podcasts and interviews with industry heavyweights and fashion creatives.
