This year sees the longest edition of Sentosa GrillFest, Singapore’s only food street by the beach. Held over four weekends from 19 July to 12 August 2019, 27 food and beverage (F&B) establishments will offer a scrumptious range of tasty delights; six of which will be set right on the beach – a first for the festival. With over 130 F&B options to choose from across a one-kilometre stretch of Siloso Beach, you will be spoilt for choice!
A new highlight at this year’s Sentosa GrillFest is a 3 metre-tall tepee BBQ pit on the beach, where Chef Jeremy Cheok of Slake serves up premium barbecued meats and dishes cooked to perfection.
Complete your experience with free entertainment by roaming performers, or kick back with a movie by the beach at 8:00pm, held on all days of Sentosa GrillFest.
It’s easy to be overwhelmed with the wide variety of food options. We did not manage to try everything, but here are some of our top picks:
Brewerkz Bar’s Siloso Saison Blanc (SG$12)
Serving its first brew in 1997, Brewerkz has garnered the title of Singapore’s first microbrewery restaurant. For just his event, Brewerkz has collaborated with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) to create the Siloso Saison Blanc (SG$12), a light-bodied beer with a dry finish. The Siloso Saison Blanc only bore a mild bitterness with a sweet aftertaste, making it a perfect starter drink and an ideal refresher if you intend to indulge in the meat cuts later.
The Goodburger’s Black Tie Burger (SG$16)
The Goodburger is a food truck that sells burgers with Impossible meat – plant-based meat patties that feel and taste like real meat. Impossible meat has been well-received since it hit our shores earlier this year, and the options at The Goodburger is no exception.
Apart from its classic cheeseburger, The Goodburger also sells the Black Tie Burger (SG$16), which sees truffle aioli, cheese and rocket spread atop a delicious Impossible patty, sandwiched between two brioche buns. The Black Tie Burger is not ideal for those who dislike rocket as The GoodBurger does not hold back when it comes to serving portions. That being said, the abundance of truffle aioli was a pleasant delight – it may just be better than your classic cheeseburger.
One Faber Group’s Bamboo Rice Nasi Lemak Ayam (SG$18)
Speaking of large servings, you will be in for a huge surprise with One Faber Group’s Bamboo Rice Nasi Lemak Ayam (SG$18) – you’ll either need a huge appetite or an empty stomach if you’re looking to finish this by yourself.
A new creation by One Faber Group, the nasi lemak’s unique taste lies in its rice. Instead of using the usual pandan leaf rice, basmati rice is steamed in individual bamboo stems before it is moved to the barbecue pit to complete the cooking process – infusing the fragrance of the pandan, coconut and bamboo flavours in the rice. If I had to pick on something, it would be that the sambal provided was definitely too little, given the large portions of rice and chicken served. I would recommend sharing this dish with a few friends; otherwise, you would not be able to stomach the many more delectable food that Sentosa GrillFest has to offer.
The Quarters Bistro & Grill’s Fwah! (SG$14)
The Quarters celebrates modern Singapore cuisine and the establishment aims to share Singapore’s culture and heritage through food. One such dish is Fwah! (SG$14), which features their unique take on our local kaya toast breakfast, enhanced with foie gras and scrambled eggs.
Speaking of Fwah!, I got to try my hands on making one myself!
