Awakenings: Art in Society in Asia 1960s-1990s makes its Southeast Asian premiere at National Gallery Singapore, following successive showings in Japan and Korea. Awakenings features 142 provocative artworks by more than 100 artists from 12 countries in Asia, shedding light on a critical turning point in Asia’s post-war history that saw artists – and the public – assert their identity and become advocates for change through art.

15 June to 15 September – Guo Pei: Chinese Art & Couture
Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture presents a dialogue between historical and contemporary Chinese design, juxtaposing embroidered masterworks by China’s foremost couturière with Chinese artworks from the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). Guo Pei’s dramatic, sculptural gowns reflect influences from growing up in Beijing surrounded by Chinese imperial art and mythology and expresses her personal take on contemporary fashion and aesthetics. Serving as points of encounter and departure, the ACM artworks invite contemplation on how Guo Pei references and reimagines Chinese art and tradition for China and the world today.

InstaKindness with Singa Exhibition
Curated by Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM), InstaKindness with Singa – an interactive event at Level 3 of Raffles City Shopping Centre – will be held in commemoration of Singapore’s 54th birthday, as well as the Singapore Bicentennial this year. In addition to family-friendly activities – such as the ‘Make a Splash with Kindness!’ ball pit and ‘Come Together. Be Greater.’ wall mural – InstaKindness with Singa will also feature past SKM campaigns that struck a chord with Singaporeans in the Singapore Kindness Movement exhibition cubes.

Music For A Cause 2019 (MFAC19) returns for its fourth year – this time, as part of YOUTHx weekend. With a stellar all-local line-up of 13 bands and artistes, this year’s MFAC promises to be bigger and better. MFAC19 will also feature a collective of F&B vendors, entrepreneurs, organisations and sponsors coming together to raise awareness for 16 social causes. Visitors may embark on an exciting learning journey through art and interactive set-ups by social causes and partners at the Interactive Zone, support local businesses and organisations in the Entrepreneur / Social Causes Zone and dance to Singapore’s best pop and indie acts in the Music Zone at MFAC19.

4 August – American Football Live in Singapore
Emo legends American Football will be playing their first-ever show in Singapore this August! Despite the band’s break up in 2000, the members of Ameican Football – Mike Kinsella, Steve Lamos and Steve Holmes – reunited in 2014 and saw the addition of a fourth member, Nate Kinsella. American Football’s third album LP3 was released on March 2019 and has since met with widespread critical acclaim.

10 August – Westlife ‘The Twenty’ Tour Live in Singapore
In celebration of their 20th anniversary, Westlife – one of pop music’s most influential boybands – will make their grand return to Singapore, performing for one night only at the National Stadium. 10 August – LANY ‘Malibu Nights’ World Tour Live in Singapore
LANY returns to Singapore once again – this time, as part of their 2019 Malibu Nights World Tour. The tour is in support of their sophomore album, Malibu Nights, which released on 5 October 2018 via Interscope Records. The Los Angeles-based trio – comprised of Paul Klein on piano and guitar, Les Priest on keyboards and guitar, and drummer Jake Goss – formed in Nashville in 2014 and have since performed in Singapore twice in 2017 and 2018. 23 to 25 August – Baybeats 2019
Gear yourselves for a weekend of music mayhem – Baybeats, Singapore’s largest free alternative music festival, returns for its 18th edition at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. This year, Baybeats invites you to rock out to an eclectic array of sounds from folk to post-rock, from metal to hip hop and more at the new LiveWire stage at the Esplanade Forecourt Garden. Sharing the same space but on the opposite end is Open Stage, featuring unplugged sets, so that new musicians have an opportunity to be a part of Baybeats. Those who mourned the loss of the Baybeats Powerhouse stage along the Esplanade Waterfront last year have nothing to fear as the edgy and heavier sounds it’s known for will still be heard at the Arena (Esplanade Outdoor Theatre).

24 August – NU’EST Concert <Segno> in Singapore
The long-awaited K-Pop boy band NU’EST is set to perform their first-ever solo concert in Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium! Debuted in 2012, NU’EST – comprising of Jr, Aron, Baekho, Minhyun and Ren – recently made their comeback with their 6th mini-album ‘Happily Ever After’. The mini-album dominated a number of music charts in Korea – including Bugs, Mnet, Soribada and Naver – and clinched the top spot on iTunes top album chart in 13 other countries. Happily Ever After also made its way into the Billboard World Album Chart, ranking at no.8 – this marks NU’EST first album chart entry in this renowned world music chart.
