“Feel free to challenge us and bring some interesting objects to the show!”: 5 Questions With The Clairvoyants

Broadway’s No. 1 magic show duo, The Clairvoyants, will be performing in Singapore for one night only! Held at the Resorts World Theatre on Saturday, 27 April 2019. Expect to be spell-bound by the duo’s magic, illusions and mentalist acts which are sure to keep you enthralled throughout the show.

The Clairvoyants consists of magician and mentalist couple, Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass, who both hail from Austria. They have won many titles thus far, such as the World Champions of Mental Magic and Stage Magicians of the Year.

The mentalist duo gained popularity during their time on America’s Got Talent, Season 11. One of the judges, Howie Mandel, said “[The Clairvoyants] are the most amazing thing that I’ve seen in the history of this show.”

We talked with the clairvoyant couple about their beginnings, future plans and what fans can look forward to in their show.

1) When did you first realize you were clairvoyant?

Thommy: Both of us worked for a TV show in Austria. Amélie worked there as a dancer and I was a magician. We soon realized that we really like each other and that we have a lot of things in common. I can remember the very first time I saw her in front of the studio. I was standing on the street, huddled up against the cold, damp air, when she appeared, walking slowly out of the mist as though she were just now coming into our dimension from somewhere beyond.

Amélie: I love hearing Thommy tell this story. I did not see the mist around me, which I guess is how that works – the mist around you is too close to see. You only ever see the mist around other people. I really liked Thommy’s presence and somehow, I knew that I found the missing piece. We immediately figured out that we want to create something new on stage and that we want to share it with the world. Since then we have been working together 24/7 and created a unique show as The Clairvoyants.

2) What do you look forward to in Singapore?

Thommy: We love to travel and to meet new cultures and countries. In our job we can combine all those things. And the best thing is that we can do all of this together. It’s the first time that we are performing our full length show in Singapore and we are looking forward to that!

Amélie: We’re especially looking forward to presenting the act that we won the World Championships of Magic with. This act is different each time because it’s about the audience and all the objects they bring to the show! So, they can feel free to challenge us and bring some interesting objects to the show! We probably will never stop working on this act, because it’s always different!

3) What can the audience expect in your performance at the Resorts World Theatre?

Amélie: In our show, people will see some of our favourite acts from AGT, as well as acts they haven’t seen before. We are really looking forward to working on and off stage with our audience and make them feel enchanted.

We also want to break the invisible wall between the audience and the stage. People are not only in the audience watching the show but are part of it. That makes it much more personal and will stay in their memories for a longer time. Let’s say it’s more of an experience than just a show.

The show is not about showing tricks, it’s about showing how fascinating human beings are and what we are able to do if we really want to!

4) What do you have planned from here on?

Thommy: We are very happy where we are right now. We’ve always dreamed of touring through the world one day, sharing our passion with people and take them away from their problems of everyday life for an evening. After Singapore, our tour continues on to North America and Europe.

Amélie: Right now, we are working on our very first book together called “Magical Connection”. In this book, we are going to teach people how to make strong connections with all sorts of people – people whom they know and are close to, and the people they meet from day to day. We will teach them how to do it using the same natural senses we all share, by developing them in ways that most people never even think of.

5) Do you intend to participate in any other talent or magic competitions in the future?

Amélie: America’s Got Talent was an incredible experience for us. It was an exciting, challenging and wonderful time.

Thommy: It felt great to experience all the support from our fans in the US. We got fan mail from all over the world and people are recognizing us on the streets. We are so thankful for all of that! Now we have the chance to say thank you to our fans, and to tour through the US to let people experience our live show.

We got a lot of prizes and awards like the World Champion of Mentalism or the Academy of Magic Arts Award. That is always a great honour from the magic community, but for us our audience is the most important thing and we are focusing on our current tour for now!

Don’t miss your chance to catch this magnificent mentalist duo in action at their only show in Singapore!
