Meet the judges of Asia’s Got Talent Season 3!
Left to Right: David Foster, Anggun, and Jay Park

As we await the results on 11 April 2019, we spoke with the three key people who gave these talents their breakthrough – the judges. Comprised of 16-time Grammy-award winner and music producer David Foster, internationally acclaimed singing sensation Anggun, and multi-platinum recording artist Jay Park, they shared with danamic. some of their favourite and unforgettable moments in the current season of Asia’s Got Talent, as well as what they hope to see in the seasons to come.

1. When it comes to voting, what tips or criteria would you give the audience to assess how good each talent was?

Jay: In Asia’s Got Talent, there are many different types of talent. There’s singing, dancing, magic, variety; so you can’t be an expert in every single field. I think it’s just about how it makes you feel. When you look at it, how does it make you feel? I think that should be a (criterion) – and if (it’s) entertaining.

David: I purely judge on what I see, what I hear, (and) what I feel; and I think my fellow judges pretty much do that too.

Anggun: At the end of the day, it’s (all about) whether or not you were touched by a performance, moved by a voice, or just surprised that a dance act can revive something in you.

2. Anggun, your Golden Buzzer act Maniac Family has made it all the way to the Grand Finals! How do you think they fared compared to the other acts in the Grand Finals?

Maniac Family

Anggun: I’m super happy that they went through to the Finals because I’m such a fan for an act that always incorporates or tries to incorporate the cultural element with today’s elements, and I think they do it perfectly! And of course, behind everything, I always assumed that there is one strong woman… I like the fact that she’s just being who she is – she was the queen of the Maniac Family. I have high hopes for them, so we’ll see how they’re going to do in the results show.

3. What was the most memorable moment you’ve had on the show since the beginning of the season?

David: I got to go up on stage with another magician – the Japanese guy – and watched him (do his magic up close) and that was really thrilling for me because I’m an amateur magician.

Jay: Mm…for me, it’s when I got some underwear flung at me from the contestants – it was part of the show. Nonetheless, it was very memorable.

Anggun: I remember this Malay guy – the “vroom vroom” guy. I laughed so hard, I cried.

4. If you could “revive” one talent back into the Finals, which act would it be?

Anggun: The “vroom vroom” guy?

David: I loved my Golden Buzzer (act) – the young girl that sang. She was phenomenal, especially for her age. She really understood what she was singing about; she wasn’t just going through an emotion. So, I’d be selfish and want my golden buzzer (act) back.

Jay: For me, I think it would (also be) my Golden Buzzer (act), TK. His magic was good too, but I just enjoyed his personality and there was this energetic presence on stage.

5. What do you hope to see in Season 4 of Asia’s Got Talent?

Anggun: I want to see more comedians (because) we don’t have any comedians. It is one of the hardest things in the world – to make people laugh. Maybe humour has its own language. So, finding that one person who has that comedic talent that can transcend languages or culture… that will be something that I am definitely going to look out for.

Jay: I would really like to see a good rapper. There’s a lot of good hip-hop and rappers in Asia, so I think it’s time to see a rapper in Asia’s Got Talent.
