Chingay 2019: Commemorating Singapore Bicentennial with 270-metre Local Artwork

On 15 and 16 February 2019, the annual street parade will be back for its 47th edition with the theme ‘Dreams Funtasia‘. As this year’s Chingay would also be the Bicentennial edition, attendees can expect to see a uniquely Singapore multicultural extravaganza with a dazzling array of exciting performances, colourful costumes, and props!

A 270-metre artwork depicting the ‘past, present and future‘ of Singapore will serve as the centrepiece of the parade. Co-created by three Singaporean multi-disciplinary artists of different races – Ng Yak Whee, Rosihan Dahim, and Vijaya Mohan – the painting illustrates the history of Singapore that dates back to 200 years ago when it was a humble fishing village, to the present-day modern, progressive multi-ethnic country, and towards the limitless imagination of our dreams and aspirations for the future. Singaporeans and residents from all walks of life have also left their fingerprints on this painting to symbolise their commitment and determination to work together towards the next 200 years.

Chingay 2019 - feature pic and parade finale

Hundreds of young people will come together to present a futuristic and dynamic finale that celebrates Singapore as a nation and home with our unique Singaporean identity and distinctive DNA.  They will be joined by thousands of performers from the previous performing numbers as everyone comes together to pledge their support and commitment towards building Singapore for the next 200 years – topped with a stunning display of pyrotechnics and fireworks to end off the night.

Back by popular demand, the Chingay Carnival returns for a second year from 15 to 17 February 2019. The area will be transformed into a whimsical Chingay wonderland with a variety of activities to engage people of all ages. On top of family-friendly activities and ‘Insta-worthy’ artistic installations, carnival-goers will have the chance to get up-close and personal with the Chingay performers and floats throughout the night as well!
